Semaphore was an early form of texting in which people waved flags at each other. Hillsides were full of them. Wales, in particular, was a nightmare.

Attempts are now being made to revive semaphore. However, as flags are no longer freely available, experts have suggested that fish would make a suitable alternative for signalling.

By this, they mean large fish such as salmon and pike, not tiddlers like sticklebacks, anchovies and whitebait. That, frankly, would be ridiculous.
